Who are we?
We are Team Valve, a collaborative group of undergraduate researchers under the mentorship of Dr. Alisa Clyne, dedicated to researching how inflammation-induced oxidative stress accelerates vascular calcification in patients living with diabetes. Our project seeks to investigate the specific mechanisms, focusing on how endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress contribute to the calcification of heart valves. The long-term goal is to identify therapeutic targets for early interventions in calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD).
We need your help!
Your contribution will help us perform critical experiments, such as analyzing how high-glucose conditions impact cells, measuring oxidative stress, and testing potential therapeutic interventions. By funding our research, you are advancing the fight against CAVD and giving hope to patients for early interventions that could improve their quality of life.
Gifts in support of the University of Maryland are accepted and managed by the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc., an affiliated 501(c)(3) organization authorized by the Board of Regents. Contributions to the University of Maryland are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Please see your tax advisor for details.
Your donation helps us cover basic supplies like lab plates and pipette tips—small tools with a big impact on our experiments!
This level helps us provide the nutrients and materials our cells need to grow and thrive during our experiments.
Your support allows us to measure inflammation markers in our research, helping us investigate calcific aortic valve disease.
This donation funds tools to measure oxidative stress in cells, a key part of understanding how diabetes impacts heart valves.
Your generosity supports exploring potential protective treatments for heart valve cells exposed to diabetes-like conditions.
Your generous support fuels advanced experiments aimed at exploring new treatments for calcific aortic valve disease.
