GT FY21: SPH: Combatting COVID-19

ABOUT US

Built on a foundation of disciplines that originated over 150 years ago with the formation of the University of Maryland, the School of Public Health was founded in 2007 and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.

Our mission is to promote and protect the health and well-being of the diverse communities throughout Maryland, the nation, and the world through leadership and collaboration in interdisciplinary education, research, practice, and public policy.

OUR COVID-19 RESEARCH

As the global coronavirus pandemic evolves, University of Maryland School of Public Health experts are at the forefront of the conversation, helping to correct misinformation, share the latest research on Covid-19 transmission and teach the public how to stay safe.

Faculty within the School of Public Health have been instrumental with guiding campus reopening plans and serving in Big Ten committees. Several faculty members have assisted county and statewide health departments with the implementation of strategic frameworks to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to protect marginalized communities that are most susceptible to detrimental outcomes. Here are some ways our faculty have been engaged with combatting the COVID-19 pandemic:

STUDENTS LEADING THE CHANGE

At a time when the pandemic is reshaping life in unpredictable ways and solid information is more vital than ever, University of Maryland students are working to mitigate the effects of the global pandemic. Whether it’s by assisting local county departments with contact tracing or conducting research alongside faculty experts, School of Public Health students are at the forefront of combatting this public health crisis.

WHY CONTRIBUTE

Now more than ever, your philanthropic support will help us fund student research opportunities, continue to provide educational programming to support growth and attainment, and will help the School reach its mission of serving the greater Maryland community and those abroad on a global scale. All of the funds collected through this Giving Tuesday campaign will be redirected to fund our COVID-19 interventions, along with supporting any educational programs that will help our students combat this pandemic.

Gifts in support of the University of Maryland are accepted and managed by the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc., an affiliated 501(c)(3) organization authorized by the Board of Regents. Contributions to the University of Maryland are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Please see your tax advisor for details.
