The Gorlin Family Foundation's Shabbat Across Maryland (aka SHABAM) is one Friday night a year where Maryland Hillel helps hundreds of students host and attend Shabbat dinners all over campus in dorms, apartments, Greek houses and at Hillel by catering food or providing a stipend for students to cook themselves.
Students volunteer to host their peers for a Friday night dinner based on themes such as campus clubs, home towns, summer camp alumni, hair color, residence hall, and anything they can dream up! Guests can either select a meal to attend or be placed randomly to make new friends! Meals are open to any student who wishes to attend.
Last year we had 1600 students eating Friday night dinner with one another on campus at over 70 meals! That doesn't even include the 21 alumni meals that took place all over the world.
