Support the Karabelle Pizzigati Initiative in Advocacy for Children & Families

Karabelle Pizzigati dedicated her career to empowering advocates for children, equipping them with the policy skills to create lasting change. The Karabelle Pizzigati Initiative Fellowship, a partnership between the University of Maryland's School of Public Policy and School of Public Health, inspires committed students to pursue careers in children’s advocacy. The program combines coursework with real-world experience, offering fellows a deep understanding of children’s advocacy. Fellows explore core competencies, tackle current issues impacting children and families, learn policy analysis, and develop strategic skills for advocating effective policy recommendations.

The fellowship culminates in internships with renowned organizations such as the Maryland Center on Economic Policy, the Child Welfare League of America, and First Focus on Children. Fellows gain hands-on experience in the child advocacy community, applying their knowledge and making meaningful contributions to projects that impact children and families.

Throughout her career, Karabelle led with integrity, warmth, and a genuine concern for the vulnerable. She embodied the essence of advocacy. The Karabelle Pizzigati Initiative continues her legacy, preparing the next generation of advocates to create meaningful change for children and families. In December, as we honor what would have been Karabelle’s 75th birthday, we aim to raise $7,500 to expand our capacity and provide more opportunities for future advocates to lead with selflessness, compassion, and dedication.

Standing alongside her dedicated team at the House Select Committee on Children, Youth, and Families, Karabelle Pizzigati (front center) embodied leadership and advocacy. Her role as staff director exemplified her unwavering commitment to championing the rights of children and families at the highest levels of government.
