The UMD Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is a nationally recognized organization that promotes the recruitment, retention, and release of qualified minorities in the fields of engineering, mathematics, computer science, and physical sciences. With over 200 members, UMD NSBE hosts professional, academic, and social events that benefit our members and the community. Study sessions, company information sessions, resume building and interview workshops, mentorship programs, outreach activities, and physical fitness activities are just a few examples of the events we host for our members. With an increase in membership, we've experienced an increase in monetary need, so our project is development support. Merchandise design and purchasing, National Conference airfare and lodging, campus room reservations, and event materials purchasing are examples of what the funding we receive would go towards.
With the funds we raise, the first action we will take is ordering merchandise for students, alumni, and faculty to represent UMD NSBE around campus and the community. After that, we plan on using the funds for various events like our end of the year celebration, our basketball tournament with NSBE Chapters from Howard University, Johns Hopkins University, UMBC, Morgan State University and George Mason University, and paying for our member's housing and airfare while attending the NSBE National Convention located in Chicago, Illinois.
