Introduction
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is one the largest public health challenges the world is & has been facing, with 39 million people living with the virus worldwide. However, most common HIV treatments are associated with toxic side effects that often negatively affect the well-being of patients who take these drugs. Our goal is to shine light on the path to a better quality of life for communities impacted by HIV.
About Us
We are a group of students in the Gemstone Honors Program researching the adverse side effects of HIV antiretroviral therapies. Our goal is to investigate a novel solution to limit drug toxicity using antioxidants and lay the groundwork needed to improve the quality of life for patients & communities affected by HIV. We are dedicated to working on this project over the next three years, which will culminate in a written thesis that will be presented to members of the scientific community.
Timeline
Plans
We hope to conduct a variety of experiments in order to evaluate potential solutions for drug toxicity. We plan to use the funds we raise to buy laboratory materials & supplies, including the antiretroviral drug & antioxidant(s) we choose to investigate. By donating to our campaign, you can help support our research and the patient communities we hope to serve.
