Growing Scholarship Support for the Mighty Sound of Maryland

**An anonymous Trumpet alum has agreed to provide a $10,000 matching gift once we have raised $10,000 for the MSOM Endowed Scholarship.**

Being part of the Big Ten is all about our collective SPIRIT for our alma mater. The Mighty Sound of Maryland (MSOM) helps bring that Terp Spirit to life each year. Now, you can help support their efforts with a gift to the Marching Band Student Support Endowment. 

In Fall 2022, Dotty Reitwiesner '78 helped to launch a first-of-its-kind endowed fund to support scholarships for marching band students from all majors. It's her hope that all members of the MSOM Community —  alumni, parents/family, fans, and students — will see this as a shared endowment. A gift of any size will help us to strengthen the Marching Band Student Support Endowment, so that generations of MSOM students of all majors will benefit from scholarship support year after year.

Here are statements from the inaugural MSOM scholarship recipients this Fall 2023:

• "Receiving aid means so much to me. It helps me pay for school costs without sacrificing doing things that I love, especially MSOM and music in general. Now I can worry less and focus on doing what I love." 
  
  
• "Following unexpected financial hardships faced by my family this year, being awarded funding is a big part of what allows me to remain a member of the best band in the land without having to worry too much about the heavy cost of education. Not having to commit to an external source of income through something like a part time job during the semester means I have more time to focus on both MSOM and my classes."
  
  
• "Being a recipient means I can continue to focus on my studies, aspirations in music and marching band without having to worry about my financial situation and I am forever grateful.
  
  
• “The generosity of donors for this program provides me the opportunity to participate in the marching band and pep band at the University of Maryland, which have been highlights in my college career. Thanks again, and Go Terps!”
  
  
• "Attending UMD was a big financial decision for me and my family, but the friends I've developed and experiences I've gained through MSOM have made it so worth it. This financial assistance will help to take off some of that burden and allow me to be more present and fully enjoy my time at school.  Marching band has been my passion for several years, and it's been the most amazing feeling to grow so much as both a musician and a person surrounded by people who care so much about me."
