About Us
The University of Maryland Dance Team is a performance squad dedicated to sharing the spirit and athleticism of dance with the UMD campus and Terps sports fans. Alongside the Mighty Sound of Maryland, this squad performs at all home football and men’s basketball games, in addition to select away games and other athletic or campus events. Whether on the sidelines, court or field, the Maryland Dance Team is an integral element of the pride, excitement and tradition of Maryland Athletics.
Our Project
Though the dance team is an essential part of the Maryland Athletics experience, we receive minimal funding from the university and are mostly responsible for our own expenses. Our dancers usually fundraise by working at several Ravens games in concession stands, yet each dancer still ends up paying almost $500 every year herself to cover team expenses such as choreography, uniforms, poms, and dance shoes.
We need your help this year! Just like other athletic teams, Maryland’s inauguration into the Big Ten is driving us to be better than ever! We need to pay for our choreography so that we have bigger and better dances to perform at each sporting event. We also need new uniforms and dance apparel that are Big Ten worthy, and cold-weather gear to wear when we travel with the football team in the late season.
Why Contribute
Terps fans enjoy watching the Maryland Dance Team at the games, but most do not realize that we do not receive the same funding that other athletic teams do. More importantly, in addition to being athletes, we are all also full-time students, so working at Ravens games is time added to our already busy schedules that should be dedicated to schoolwork.
Contributing to our project will let us know that you believe in us! Any help you can give is greatly appreciated and will assist our transformation into the Big Ten dance team our campus is counting on!
