Team SAINT

Introduction

We are a team of undergraduate researchers under the Gemstone Honors Program, aiming to develop a next generation system of drug delivery using nanoparticles, specifically targeting cancer. The American Cancer Society projects that, by 2024, approximately 2 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer, with 30.6% succumbing to the disease. Conventional treatments like chemotherapy are unable to effectively and specifically target cancer cells without causing collateral damage to surrounding healthy cells. Because of this issue, it is imperative that this is alleviated by focusing on a new genre of tech: nanotechnology.

Our Goal

We are in the process of creating Drug-Agonist Vesicles (DAVes), a nanoparticle that we designed and are in the process of testing. We aim to not only develop these but to also create a unique method of mass production by using microfluidic technology to make and filter our DAVes for consistent sizing.
